Clean the Microwave With Steam and a Lemon
· Mark Mendenhall
A microwave with months of splatter baked on looks like a lost cause. Steam does the work — you just wipe.
How to do it
- Fill a microwave-safe bowl with a cup of water and half a lemon, squeezed and dropped in (or two tablespoons of vinegar).
- Microwave on high for 3 to 5 minutes, until the window fogs up.
- Leave the door shut for another 3 minutes — the steam is still working.
- Open up and wipe everything down, including the turntable. Most gunk slides off.
For a really determined spot, dip the cloth in the hot lemon water and hold it on the spot for 30 seconds. The lemon leaves it smelling clean instead of chemical.
