Fix a Loose Cabinet Handle Without New Hardware
· Mark Mendenhall
When a cabinet pull wobbles no matter how hard you tighten it, the screw hole in the wood is stripped. You don't need a new door — you need to give the screw something to bite.
How to do it
- Remove the handle and the screw.
- Dip a wooden toothpick in wood glue and push it into the hole. Snap it off flush. For a big hole, use two or three.
- Let the glue dry about an hour.
- Reinstall the handle, driving the screw into the toothpicks like fresh wood.
The same trick fixes loose hinge screws on cabinet and room doors all over the house. Keep toothpicks in your junk drawer for this.
