Keep an Area Rug From Sliding With Shelf Liner
· Mark Mendenhall
A rug that creeps across the room or bunches under the coffee table is a trip hazard, especially on tile and laminate. A proper rug pad is best, but rubber shelf liner gets you most of the way there for a few dollars.
How to do it
- Cut pieces of rubber mesh shelf liner to sit under the corners and edges of the rug. You don't need full coverage.
- Put the liner mesh-side down on clean, dry floor.
- Lay the rug back down and walk the edges flat.
Check it monthly — the liner flattens over time and loses grip. Never use this trick on a rug at the top of stairs; that one deserves a real pad and tape rated for the job.
