Keep Shower Grout From Getting Moldy With a 30-Second Squeegee
· Mark Mendenhall
Mold doesn't grow on grout because the grout is dirty — it grows because the grout stays wet. The cheapest mold prevention in the bathroom is a five-dollar shower squeegee and half a minute of your time.
The habit
- After your shower, run the squeegee down the tile walls and glass, pushing water to the drain.
- Do the floor corners where water pools.
- Leave the shower door or curtain open so air can circulate.
- Run the bathroom fan for 20 to 30 minutes after showers — use a timer switch if you forget.
Dry grout is grout that stays clean. You'll scrub a fraction as often, and the caulk lasts years longer too.
