Label Both Ends of Every Cord You Store
· Mark Mendenhall
Everybody has a bin of chargers and cords that fit nothing they own anymore. The ten-second labeling habit fixes it going forward.
How to do it
- Fold a piece of painter's tape or masking tape around the cord near each plug, like a little flag.
- Write what it belongs to and the date: 'Tablet charger — 2026.'
- Label BOTH ends. A label at one end of a coiled cord in a bin is a label you'll never find.
While you're at it, purge the bin: if nobody can identify a cord after two honest tries, it goes. Old phone chargers breed in the dark, I'm convinced of it.
