Grandpa’s Workshop

A Rhyming Race Car Building Story for Kids Ages 3–6

The workshop door swings wide and sawdust smells of pine and sun — today, Grandpa and Benny are building a RACE CAR! First they draw the plan (Benny holds the pencil), pick a strong pine board, and measure twice so the cuts come out nice. Grandpa saws with all his might — ZZZT, zip, zip, zee! — while sawdust dances wild and free. Then Benny gets the important jobs: sanding it smooth, tapping on the four black wheels, painting it bright red, adding a lightning-yellow stripe down the middle, and sticking on the big black number SEVEN. Ready... set... GO! Down the driveway it zooms past grass, trees, and the red mailbox — "FIRST PLACE!" Benny shouts as Grandpa lifts him high.

Told in bouncy rhyming verse packed with workshop sounds, this 16-spread picture book is a celebration of making things together. Every step of the real build process — plan, measure, saw, sand, wheels, paint, stripe, number — teaches little makers how a project comes together, and ends with the sweetest lesson of all: the best things are the ones we make, built with love from start to end.

Perfect for little builders ages 3 to 6 who love tools, cars, and grandpa time. Benny (blue overalls, brown hair, big curious eyes) and Grandpa (white beard, red flannel shirt, brown cap) are warm and consistent on every page. Soft watercolor illustrations, large easy-to-read text that never covers the characters, and a cozy read-aloud length make it ideal for bedtime storytime, preschool makerspaces, and birthday gifts for kids who'd rather build than watch.

Illustrations created with AI assistance and carefully art-directed for consistency; every page was hand-checked.
